Meditation helps generate our own presence in such a way that we can touch deeply the life that is here and available in every moment. The idea initially was to create awareness by painting metaphorical representations of this simple yet deep philosophy of mind. As paintings progressed, i found myself adapting the philosophy in my technique as well, not limiting it to the theme anymore. A stroke becomes a record of the fleeting moment.
'The Four Monks' Series (2015-ongoing) seeks to intensify my awareness of the present moment. The result is a culmination of strokes rendered with mindfulness of action. Mindfulness of action in the mixing of the paint to achieve desired consistency, to loading of the brush, to the grip and twirl of the brush that lays the stroke in the desired angle and direction. The preparation becomes crucial in the process. I start with meditation, which allows me to become calm and focused, with a 100% of my presence, in an effort to maintain a reflective attitude as i paint. Metaphorical representations have continued to weave themselves in the themes of my works. i like showing what is, by decoding what is not. Along the way, my work has found inspiration in Traditional Japanese Sumi-e Painting, Minimalism and Buddhist Theosophy.
I also conduct workshops on 'Introducing Meditative Art' to impart the idea of discovering and creatively engaging with the present moment as a means of entering vigorously into life, with the strength generated by the energy of mindfulness.
